Changing Lives, One Person and One Smile at a Time

I am passionate about helping people. As an orthodontist, I do more than straighten teeth: my work improves oral health and overall wellbeing, increases a person’s self-esteem, and helps them live with confidence!

One of the most rewarding aspects of my profession is the opportunity to meet and partner with incredible people. Orthodontics is a team effort: the patients, parents, doctor, and staff all must work together to ensure the best outcome. This united effort brings us together and we build a close rapport during the treatment process. By the time we are finished, my patient has a beautifully healthy smile and I have a new friend!

Oral Healthcare and Helping Others: a Family Tradition

I grew up knowing I wanted to help others and oral health has always been a big part of my life. Dentistry, and then the specialization in orthodontics, allowed me to realize this goal.

I come from a dental family: my mom, aunts, sister, and wife are all dentists or dental specialists!

My mother, Maria, holds a PhD. and is a pediatric dentist. She is a retired professor from the Universidad Central de Venezuela. She has been president of the Venezuelan Society of Pediatric Dentistry and the Latin American Association of Pediatric Dentistry. She has loved mentoring hundreds of students, has participated in numerous research projects, and has received numerous awards and recognitions for her research efforts. Currently, she works here in the practice as an Assistant, bringing her more than 40 years of experience to our patients.

My sister is a general dentist. She graduated from the University of California at San Francisco and is currently a professor at the School of Dentistry.

Silvia, my wife, is a prosthodontist. She and I met in dental school, where she graduated at the top of our class (I was ranked 5th). She holds a Post-Doctoral Certificate in Prosthodontics and a Master’s degree in Dental Science. Before moving to the US, she was a Professor at the Universidad Central de Venezuela and is the recipient of numerous academic and research awards.

My father, Romulo, holds a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics. He has been a consultant for over 25 years in international development banks, participating in international projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. While he’s now retired from that role, he works at the practice as our financial coordinator.

Education and Experience

  • Doctorate of Dental Surgery, Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas, Venezuela
  • Post-Doctoral Certificate in Orthodontics, University of Puerto Rico
  • Master in Dental Science, University of Puerto Rico

I graduated 5th in my class at the Universidad Central de Venezuela, the most prestigious dental school in Venezuela. I was then accepted into the competitive orthodontics residency program at the University of Puerto Rico, which accepts only two residents per year.

While I have finished my residency and degrees, I have not stopped learning. The more I learn, the more tools I have to solve patients’ problems. All cases bring different challenges to the table and each challenge is a riddle to be solved!

Throughout the year I participate in an array of continuing educational opportunities, attending courses in orthodontics, as well as general and specialty dental topics. I choose a holistic approach to orthodontics, focusing on each patient’s oral health and overall wellbeing, so they finish with a healthier smile and body.

I am a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics; this designation is a confirmation of my personal commitment to providing lifelong, quality patient care. To the best of my knowledge, there are only three other offices in Sugar Land who have an ABO-Certified orthodontist.

In addition to my board certification, I am an active member of the:

  • American Association of Orthodontist
  • Southwestern Society of Orthodontists
  • American Dental Association
  • Texas Dental Association

Beyond the Office

I grew up in Caracas, Venezuela, and now reside in Sugar Land with my family. My wife, Silvia, and I met in dental school. We were friends for three years before we started date. We married in 2009 and took off for Puerto Rico to complete our specialty programs. We welcomed our firstborn, Victoria, in 2015 and our youngest, Sebastian, in 2016. They’re both very caring, playful, and smart little kids.

I am a family man: if I’m not at the office, you’ll find me with my loved ones. Our weekends often involve Silvia and I taking the children to visit parks and museums, and exploring new restaurants. We encourage our children to speak Spanish and to learn from other cultures: Houston is a wonderfully diverse city and offers us so much to learn about!

In Closing …

I was an orthodontic patient and understand how changing a smile can transform one’s life. I am passionate about the care I provide, and the overall experience you will have in my practice. I look forward to meeting and welcoming you to our family: I promise we will all do our best to keep you smiling and engaged while you achieve the bright, healthy, and naturally beautiful smile you deserve!
